Foundation Principles
Article 2 –
1) The journal is a scientific refereed journal and the owner of the journal on
behalf of the university is the University Rector.
Purpose and Scope
Article 3 –
1) The purpose of this Directive is to regulate the procedures, principles and
fundamentals regarding the nature and publication of the “Hitit Journal of
Occupational Health & Safety” published by Hitit University, Occupational
Health and Safety Coordination Unit.
2) The publication language of the journal is English.
3) The journal publishes scientific studies on
Occupational Health and Safety, primarily on topics such as “occupational
health, occupational safety, occupational accidents, occupational diseases,
emergencies, fire, ergonomics, risk factors, risk assessment methods,
occupational health and safety legislation, OHS in working life, etc.”
4) The journal is published as an open access
e-journal with at least two issues per year, in accordance with the status of a
"scientific refereed journal" as of December 2022. The journal may
publish special issues with the decision of the Editorial Board. The
international name of the journal is "Hitit Journal of Occupational Health
& Safety" and is included in international indexes.
CHAPTER TWO
Rules and Duties
Article 4. The
committees that ensure the functioning of the journal and their duties are
stated below.
1) Scientific and Advisory Board: It consists of
national and international experts elected for two years by the decision of the
Publication Board. The members of the Scientific and Advisory Board generally
perform the following duties.
a) Provides opinions to the Editorial Board and/or the
Publication Board regarding the strengthening of the scientific infrastructure
of the Journal and the selection of expert referees in the subject areas of the
studies submitted to the Journal.
b) Assists the Editorial Board by taking the necessary
initiatives to have the journal scanned in national and international indexes.
c) Contributes to increasing the awareness of the
journal at national and international levels.
d) Follows national and international developments and
presents its opinions and suggestions to the Editorial Board.
2) Editorial Board: It consists of faculty members who
are selected for two years by the decision of the Occupational Health and
Safety Coordinator to be experts in their fields according to the subjects
determined in the journal. The Journal Editor and Assistant Editors are natural
members of the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board is formed with one
representative from each faculty, college and vocational school department and
at least 1/3 of the total number of members from outside the university. Editorial
Board members generally perform the following duties.
a) Provides suggestions for sending scientific studies
submitted to the journal and subject to preliminary review by the Editorial
Board to expert referees in the field, and assists the Editorial Board in the
process of peer review and publication of the relevant study.
b) Members of the Editorial Board submit their
opinions to the Editorial Board in order to approve the publication of
scientific studies that have completed all processes and are ready for
publication, in their field.
c) Conducts activities to determine the date, subject
and theme of the journal's special issue.
c) When necessary, the Guest Editor determines.
d) Editorial Board members may also serve as field
editors.
e) The Faculty, College and Vocational School selects
the Editor from among its academic staff.
f) Determines the Language Editors.
g) It determines the studies that pass the evaluation
processes and are presented by the Editorial Board and determines those to be
published in line with the principles and publication ethics of the Journal,
and approves the final version of the issue.
3) Editor: He/she is elected by the Editorial Board
from among the faculty members for a two-year term. The editor generally
performs the following duties.
a) Ensures coordination between the members of the
Editorial Board.
b) Carries out activities to strengthen the scientific
infrastructure of the Journal and increase its awareness by holding necessary
consultations between the members of the Scientific and Advisory Board and the
Editorial Board.
c) It carries out all processes from the acceptance
process to the publication process, such as classification, preliminary
examination, field suitability, format requirements, writing rules, sending to
referees and publication of scientific studies submitted to the journal.
c) Takes the necessary initiatives to have the journal
scanned in national and international indexes.
d) All studies that have completed their evaluation
processes and are ready for publication are determined by the Editorial Board
and presented to the Editorial Board.
e) Determines the Assistant Editor(s).
f) Chairs the Editorial Board and makes appointments
in the Editorial Board and the Secretariat.
g) Responsible for coordinating the Editorial Board
Meetings and preparing the meeting minutes.
h) Appoints the Editor-in-Chief.
4) Editorial Board: Consists of the Journal Editor,
Assistant Editors and Language Editors. The Editorial Board generally performs
the following duties;
a) Conducts the flow of all work processes required to
prepare the journal for publication.
b) Provides information to the Editorial Board on the
promotion of the journal, its inclusion in national and international indexes,
following developments, etc.
c) Determines the Journal Secretariat.
5) Assistant Editors: They consist of a maximum of two
faculty members who work in departments affiliated with the faculty and are
determined by the Journal Editor. They assist the Editor in the execution of
editorial work. Their term of office depends on the term of office of the
Editor and they are assigned for a maximum of two years. Assistant Editors are
the natural members of the Editorial Board.
6) Language Editors: They consist of faculty members
who are experts in the languages in which the journal is published, and are
appointed by the Editorial Board and elected by the relevant board for a
two-year term. They are the natural members of the Editorial Board. Language
Editors generally perform the following duties.
a) Language Editors, who are experts in the languages
in which the Journal is published, examine the scientific studies in their
field and sent to the Journal for publication in terms of spelling rules and
submit their opinions to the Editorial Board to approve the start of the
evaluation process.
7) Board of Referees: It consists of prominent
academicians in their fields, recommended by the Editorial Board and determined
by the Editorial Board. The referees in question may be from different higher
education institutions according to their fields and the referees of each issue
are announced on the relevant page of the published issue of the Journal. The
members of the Board of Referees generally perform the following duties.
a) Examines the studies sent to the journal in terms
of method, content and originality, decides whether they are suitable for
publication and forwards them to the Editorial Board/Secretariat along with a
report.
b) Studies submitted to the journal are refereed
according to their content and areas of expertise. By accepting the refereeing
of the study sent to them, referees undertake not to use the study they
evaluate for their own benefit and not to share any information or documents
related to the study with a third person/party.
c) The double-blind method is used in the evaluation
process of studies sent for publication in the journal. In the double-blind
method, the identities of the authors and referees of the studies are hidden.
Accordingly, it is essential that a study is sent to two referees for
evaluation. In order for the study to be accepted, both referees must give a
positive opinion regarding the evaluation. If one of the referees gives a
negative opinion, the Editorial Board examines the referee reports and decides
whether to reject the study or send it to a third referee.
c) The period given to the referees for the referee
evaluation process is 1 (one) month. Correction suggestions from the referees
or the Editor must be completed by the authors within 2 (two) weeks in line
with the "correction report". Referees can decide on the
appropriateness of a study by examining the corrections, and if necessary, they
can request corrections more than once or reject scientific studies whose
correction suggestions are not fulfilled. Upon the request of the referees, the
Editorial Board may grant an additional period of up to 15 (fifteen) days.
d) Referees shall notify the Editorial Board of their
acceptance/rejection status of the scientific studies sent to them within 7
(seven) days.
8) Journal Secretariat: It consists of academic staff
selected by the Editorial Board for a two-year term, provided that they are
from within the University. The Journal Secretariat generally performs the
following duties.
a) They carry out the duties assigned by the Editorial
Board in all processes related to the Journal, such as classifying the studies
submitted to the Journal, obtaining similarity reports, sending them to
referees, preparing the completed studies for printing and/or digital
publication, transferring the Journal to the Internet and editing them.
b) They follow the processes related to the
classification and archiving of all correspondence related to the Journal,
including correspondence with the Board of Referees.
9) Editor-in-Chief: Appointed by the Editor from among
the assistant editors. Conducts necessary correspondence on relevant matters.
CHAPTER THREE
Final Provisions
Article 4. -1)
The monitoring/management and archiving of all processes from the stage of
acceptance to the publication process, such as the classification of scientific
studies submitted to the journal by the relevant boards, preliminary
examination, sending to referees, publication, etc., are carried out through
electronic media.
2) The Editorial Board is authorized in all matters
related to the operation, publication and printing of the Journal that are not
specified in this Directive.
3) The studies sent to the journal are first evaluated
by the Journal Secretariat and the Editorial Board. At this stage, studies that
do not comply with the Journal's publication and writing rules, the purpose and
scope of the Journal, are weak in terms of language and expression rules,
contain critical scientific errors, have no original value and do not meet the
publication policies are returned to the author/authors without being included
in the process. In this regard, all authority and responsibility regarding
whether the study will be included in the process and whether it meets the
necessary conditions belongs to the Editorial Board. Studies that are found to
comply with the Journal's purpose and writing rules are included in the process
for evaluation.
4) During the article uploading phase, a publication
rights transfer agreement/form is obtained from the author/authors of
scientific studies that are ready for publication. Accordingly, author/authors
who submit their work to the Journal are deemed to have read and accepted the
publication rights transfer agreement uploaded to the relevant system.
5) Author/Authors upload the similarity report of
their scientific studies to the system together with their scientific studies.
6) All operating expenses of the journal are covered
by the Faculty Dean's Office.
7) The journal's publication activities are supervised
by the University Publication Commission.

1) This Directive shall enter into force as of the date of approval by the
Rectorate.
